Khabib Nurmagomedov Demands NSAC Apology, Eyes April Date With Tony Ferguson

Reigning UFC lightweight champion, Khabib 'The Eagle' Nurmagomedov has demanded an apology from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, before he makes an Octagon walk in 'Sin City' in the future.

The undefeated Dagestan native last competed in Las Vegas at UFC 229, in a bad-blooded matchup with 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor in October 2018, and after a post-fight brawl between both camps, Nurmagomedov was fined $500,000 from his $2,000,000 fight purse. Speaking at a press event yesterday, the Sambo specialist told how in order for him to return to the UFC's adopted home, the power's that be must issue him an official apology for fining him for his part in the post-event fracas. If the American Kickboxing Academy staple isn't issued an apology before March, he will turn his attention to a lightweight title defense against number-one contender, Tony 'El Cucuy' Ferguson, in April in New York City.

Speaking in Moscow on Friday, Nurmagomedov gave us an update on his fighting future and the above hurdle which prevents him fighting in Nevada. "We're in talks now," Khabib said. "They (the UFC) suggested having it in (Las) Vegas in March, but they (NSAC) have to issue me an official apology for fining me for the incident on 6 (sic) October, 2018. If they apologise, I'll fight. If not, I'll pick another venue. I'll fight in April in New York. I'll be ready in April - March if (Las) Vegas apologises or gives me back my money. Those are my conditions, we're in talks now."

An April timeline gives both Nurmagomedov and Ferguson ample time to prepare for each other, having failed to meet on four previous occasions during their respective rise through the ranks at 155-pounds. Ferguson extended his win streak to a staggering twelve fights in June, via a second round doctor's stoppage over Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone, as the former interim lightweight champion looks to finally pair up with the aforementioned Nurmagomedov. Khabib on the other hand, last featured at UFC 242 in September, stopping then interim 155-pound best Dustin 'The Diamond' Poirier via rear-naked choke in the third round in their main event clash in Abu Dhabi.
