November 7th. 2015, Vitor 'The Phenom' Belfort rounds off his memorable trilogy with Dan 'Hendo' Henderson on home soil. The former UFC heavyweight champion returned to Sao Paulo in a headlining tilt against former PRIDE FC and Strikeforce best Henderson, for a rubber match against the heavy-hitter with the tie level at one apiece.
In 2006, Henderson picked up a unanimous decision in a bout during the pair's stint in PRIDE FC. Belfort, tested positive for elevated testosterone after the pairing. Seven years later, this time at light heavyweight, Belfort scored a opening round head kick stoppage. In entirely similar fashion, Belfort, the following year once more landed that now somewhat patented head kick to move to 2-1 over Henderson. Belfort had just dropped a middleweight title challenge to Chris Weidman, and following the victory over Henderson managed just one win in his next five outings. Henderson on the other hand, would go to finish former Bellator MMA great Hector Lombard, before losing to Michael Bisping in a rematch, in 2016 in a middleweight title challenge in his final mixed-martial-arts walk.
One-time light heavyweight title chaser Glover Teixeira featured in our co-headliner, taking a second round victory over Patrick Cummins, who had made big leaps at 205-pounds courtesy of a knockout win over Rafael Feijao. Teixeira would go on to next finish former light heavyweight champion and TUF alumni Rashad Evans, earning a title-eliminator against Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson in 2016.
Bantamweight prospect Thomas Almeida continued his rise through the ranks on the main card, scoring a first round knockout over Anthony Birchak. The Brazilian striking talent had extended his win streak to four in the promotion, but ultimately dropped a loss to future bantamweight best Cody Garbrandt in his next outing. Since then, Almeida has managed just one victory in three, returning to the win column with a finish of Albert Morales.
The popular welterweight Alex 'Cowboy' Oliviera earned a Performance of the Night bonus via a late knockout of Piotr Hallmann. The loss would spell an end to Poland native Hallmann's run in the promotion, while Oliviera featured in his first UFC main event next, in an all 'Cowboy' affair. Snapping a three fight rise, Oliveira was submitted in the opening round to Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone.
Dagestan finisher Rashid Magomedov earned his fourth victory in the organization, as he picked up a unanimous decision over talented grappler Gilbert 'Durinho' Burns over three rounds. After a final victory over Bobby Green, Magomedov and the UFC parted ways over a contract dispute. Burns, would go on to become a prominent player at 170-pounds, landing victories over Gunnar Nelson and Alexey Kunchenko.
In our main card opener, light heavyweight title hopeful Corey Anderson ended Fabio Maldonado's stint in the promotion as he scored a dominant unanimous decision win. After a shocking head kick knockout loss to Ovince Saint-Preux, Anderson has exacted somewhat of a resurgence, picking up four straight wins over the last calendar year. Rounding off his surge last weekend, Anderson picked up an opening round knockout win over the exciting striker Johnny Walker.
In our featured bout of the Fox Sports 1 preliminary card, disgraced former lightweight Abel Trujillo was submitted by Gleison Tibau, who was disqualified after the bout after he tested positive for the banned substance, erythropoietin. Trujillo was released from the promotion after his 2017 loss to Lando Vannata. Trujillo was also charged with sexual exploitation of a child this summer, and has twice pleaded guilty to domestic violence against the mother of his child.
Up next, Johnny 'Hollywood' Case would earn his final victory in the promotion, as he picked up a unanimous decision triumph over Yan Cabral. Brazil's Thiago Tavares managed a quick fire guillotine over Clay Guida inside just forty seconds, following another submission finish in the prelim opener, between Chas Skelly and Kevin Souza.
In our UFC Fight Pass featured bout, Viscardi Andrade managed his last victory under the UFC banner with a decision win over Gasan Umalatov. Andrade would go on to pick up a decision over Richard Walsh, in a bout that was subsequently overturned to a 'No Contest' after Andrade tested positive for the banned substance, stanozolol.
Top ten bantamweights clashed before hand, with Jimmie Rivera besting Pedro Munhoz over three rounds to score a unanimous decision win. Matheus Nicolau made a good impression on his promotional bow, as he submitted Bruno Mesquita via a third round Japanese necktie to kick off the action.
