A flyweight title bout joins the championship billing at UFC 247 on February 8th. at Houston's Toyota Centre, as reigning flyweight champion, Valentina 'Bullet' Shevchenko looks to defend her throne against division standout, Katlyn 'Blonde Fighter' Chookagian. The news of the pairing was initially reported by ESPN staff writer, Ariel Helwani.

The matchup between the two 125-pound strikers will take co-main event status, as light heavyweight kingpin, Jon 'Bones`' Jones meets with undefeated contender, Dominick 'The Devastator' Reyes. Shevchenko successfully lodged the second defence of her 125-pound gold at UFC Fight Night Montevideo recently, in a tentative counter striking display against former bantamweight title hopeful, Liz Carmouche, where 'Bullet' avenged her first professional loss. #1 ranked contender Chookagian emerged from Madison Square Garden victorious against former Invicta FC flyweight best, Jennifer Maia at UFC 244 at the beginning of the month, and spoke of her intentions to finally challenge for championship gold after the pairing.

Krygyzstan native Shevchenko has only been bested twice in her entertaining Octagon stint, both times falling on the wrong side of decision's to bantamweight bruiser Amanda Nunes. In her four year UFC career, the Muay Thai specialist has notched impressive victories over Julianna Pena, Holly Holm, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and maybe most impressively, struck success in her first title defence via a shuddering head kick knockout of Jessica Eye.

Pennsylvania native Chookagian has long dominated the top five of flyweight, scoring four wins since her return to the division last year. The 30-year-old dropped a decision to the aforementioned Eye in her only loss since the divisional return, as she managed victories over Mara Romero Borello, Alexis Davis, Joanne Calderwood and Jennifer Maia to book her first championship challenge with the organization.

UFC 247 takes place on February 8th. from the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas, with the previously mentioned meeting of Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes taking headlining status. A heavyweight matchup between former division championship hopeful, Derrick 'The Black Beast' Lewis and division debutante, Ilir 'The Sledgehammer' Latifi is also earmarked for the event.
