Colby Covington: Kamaru Usman Doesn't Want To Sign Contract For Title Rematch

Former interim UFC welterweight champion, Colby Covington has claimed that former-foe, current undisputed welterweight titleholder, Kamaru Usman doesn't want to sign a bout agreement to feature against him in a slated rematch, and how the Auchi native is hoping an "alien invasion" happens in a bid to continuously avoid the re-run.

Last featuring at UFC Vegas 11 in September of last year, Covington scored a one-sided win over former division pacesetter, Tyron Woodley, taking an eventual fifth round TKO victory over the St. Louis veteran after he had suffered a rib injury during a final round wrestling scramble.

Off the back of the triumph, Covington immediately called for a welterweight title rematch against Usman, or a bad-blooded grudge match against Jorge Masvidal, with both Usman and Masvidal eventually sharing the Octagon together for the second time in April at UFC 261 -- where the former took home a shocking second round knockout.

Prior to Usman's second success against two-time title chaser, Masvidal, UFC president, Dana White confirmed that Usman would rematch Covington if he could get past Masvidal, despite the ongoing run of the #3 ranked, Leon Edwards. 

Last weekend at UFC 263 in Glendale, Arizona -- Edwards continued to make his case for a re-run of his own against Usman, scoring a unanimous decision win over the returning, Nate Diaz, however, White maintained that Covington still hadn't been dislodged from his #1 contender perch, and would fight Usman again before Edwards received his title shot. 

Speaking following Edwards' win over Diaz at the Gila River Arena, Covington claimed that reigning champion, Usman was doing everything in his power to sign a contract to score a rematch with him.

"They're (the UFC) just waiting on Marty (Kamaru Usman)," Covington said during a recent appearance on What The Heck with MMA Fighting reporter, Mike Heck. "Ever since he (Usman) beat that fragile dude, 'Street Judas' (Jorge) Masvidal, he's been running. But he just found out there's nowhere left to hide. He's going to have to face being inside that Octagon sooner than later."

"So as soon as his balls stop shrinking and he comes back to earth, he can fight me again," Covington continued. "But the thing is, he's off the grid. He's probably got his phone on airplane mode, he's denying all the UFC's calls. He doesn't want to sign the contract. He's just hoping some alien invasion happens where he can pick some other lightweight washout to fight."
