Leonard Ellerbe: Floyd Mayweather Open To 'Very Personal' Rematch With Conor McGregor

Former boxing world champion, the undefeated, Floyd Mayweather is according to his manager, Leonard Ellerbe, open to a potential future "very personal" re-run against former opponent and former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, Conor McGregor. 

Making his return to the squared circle this weekend in the Miami Gardens, Florida -- Mayweather is scheduled to take on YouTuber, the 0-1 professional boxer, Logan Paul in an eight round exhibition boxing match at the Hard Rock Stadium.

The outing will come as Mayweather's second exhibition boxing match since his second career retirement back in August of 2017 -- after he took home a first round TKO win over Rizin FF kickboxing talent, Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year's Eve in 2018. 

In his retirement fight from professional boxing, the Michigan native headlined a Showtime promoted event against the above-mentioned, McGregor, who made his professional boxing debut at the event. Mayweather went on to score an eventual tenth round TKO victory over the Dubliner.

In the time since, McGregor and Mayweather have both flirted with a potential rematch in the future, as well as the former's willingness to score another boxing match in the future, with potential showdowns against the likes of rivals, Paulie Malignaggi, YouTuber, Jake Paul, and former-foe of Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao briefly suggested since. 

Ahead of this Sunday's showcase against the elder Paul brother, Mayweather's manager, Ellerbe spoke with Showtime Sports where he declared that his client would be open a rematch with the Dubliner in the future, labeling their rivalry as "very personal".

"He's (Conor McGregor) been talking a lot of mess," Ellerbe said. "Listen, what I say to Conor (McGregor) is that if you're listening -- you can get it too. Most definitely. Because that right there is very personal. I think after everything when they left the ring and hugged and everything but things are a little different now."

Those claims from Ellerbe regarding a potential rematch are sure to pique the interest of McGregor, who himself is booked for his Octagon outing of the year this July as he headlines UFC 264 from a sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada as he takes on former interim UFC lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier. 

McGregor headlined UFC 257 in January on 'Fight Island' in Abu Dhabi, UAE -- dropping his first professional knockout loss in mixed martial arts in the form of a second round barrage from American Top Team staple, Poirier -- drawing the overall score between the two at one apiece following McGregor's September 2014 knockout win, setting up this summer's trilogy rubber match.
