Report - Sergio Pettis vs. Kyoji Horiguchi Headlines Bellator 272 On December 3.

A bantamweight title clash between reigning undisputed division champion, Sergio Pettis and former champion, current Rizin FF titleholder, Kyoji Horiguchi has been booked to headline Bellator 272 on December 3. At the time of publication, a location, or venue for the event has yet to be determined by the organization. 

Undefeated in his first three outings under the Scott Coker-led Bellator banner, Roufusport standout, Pettis, claimed the undisputed bantamweight title back in May against Juan Archuleta -- scoring a unanimous decision triumph at Bellator 258.

For Horiguchi, the Gunma native returned for the first time in 15 months following injury back in December of last year -- regaining his Rizin FF bantamweight crown with a first round knockout win over two-time opponent, Kai Asakura. Morning Kombat reporters, Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell were first to report the pairing of the two. 

Pettis, 21-5 as a professional, debuted in Bellator back in Janaury of last year -- returning to the bantamweight limit with a guillotine win over Alfred Khashakyan in the opening round. 

Earning his title challenge against Archuleta, Pettis took home a unanimous decision victory over Ricky Bandejas. 

Across the course of his UFC run, Pettis, the younger brother of former UFC and WEC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, managed to score notable victories over the likes of Chris Cariaso, John Moraga, Joseph Benavidez, Tyson Nam, and holds a win over current flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno.

Horiguchi, also a former flyweight under the UFC's banner, suffered a fifth round armbar loss to Demetrious Johnson in his sole title challenge during his tenure.

11-1 as a professional since leaving the promotion back in November 2016, Horiguchi, revered as one of the greatest fighters to emerge from Asia in the history of the sport, successfully returned from a catastrophic knee injury to stop the aforenoted, Asakura back in December of last year -- adding him to a post-UFC run of victories over Darrion Caldwell, Manel Kape, Ian McCall, and Hiromasa Ougikubo.
