A featherweight rematch between rivals Yair 'El Pantera' Rodriguez and Jeremy 'Lil Heathen' Stephens is expected to co-headline UFC Fight Night Boston on October 18th. from the TD Garden. The pair recently headlined UFC Fight Night Mexico City last Saturday, but a controversial ending to the main event matchup has warranted an almost immediate re-run. Within the opening fifteen seconds of the bout, Rodriguez accidentally raked the left eye of Stephens, causing a corneal abrasion and bruising, and after consulting with the cage-side physician, the Iowa native was deemed unable to continue.

After the brief exchange in the Octagon, fans in attendance began hurling beers, popcorn and then bottles at Stephens as he exited the arena, and before hand, into the Octagon as Herb Dean waved off the bout. In a hotel altercation the following day, Rodriguez and Stephens confronted each other, with both parties exchanging homophobic slurs. Rodriguez claimed after the contest with both Karen Bryant and one-time welterweight title challenger Dan Hardy, how he was initially opposed to meeting Stephens due to his lower ranking, but a rematch between the two will now take place a month later.

UFC Fight Night Boston recently lost it's original co-main event to UFC Fight Night Moscow, as dynamic striker Zabit Magomedsharipov takes on the explosive Calvin Kattar, but still features a headlining clash between perennial contender Dominick Reyes and light heavyweight debutante Chris Weidman.
