Conor McGregor Calls For Frankie Edgar Bout In December, Offers Fight Purse To Charity

Conor McGregor has called for a hiatus snapping clash with Frankie Edgar in December.
Former two-weight UFC world champion, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor, has called for a December showdown with former 155 pound best Frankie Edgar in a late night Twitter exchange. McGregor, who is yet to return to the Octagon since October 2018, in a fourth round loss to nemesis Khabib Nurmagomedov, was rumored to make his return against Justin Gaethje recently, but it now seems the Dubliner has his eyes set on a matchup with former featherweight rival Edgar, who recently announced his intention to test bantamweight waters.

Replying to an official UFC tweet wishing Edgar a happy 38th birthday, McGregor shared his best wishes, and also teased a potential clash with 'The Answer' before the turn of the year. @TheNotoriousMMA "Happy birthday Frankie, see you in December." Drawing a response from the New Jersey native, Edgar claimed he had already agreed a meeting with McGregor, with the two failing to lock horns during their respective featherweight days. @FrankieEdgar "Thanks pal, I said yes already it's on you and @danawhite to make it happen." Crumlin native McGregor seemed to agree with Edgar's calls for UFC president Dana White to arrange the match, admirably offering his potential fight purse to charity in the process. @TheNotoriousMMA "There you go (Dana) White, make the bout. Give my purse to charity. First responders. One for All! @ProperWhiskey"

Edgar was briefly linked to a bantamweight bow against top contender Aljamain Sterling at UFC 244 in November after his featherweight championship loss to Max Holloway, with Serra-Longo trainee Sterling requiring surgery on a hand injury. McGregor on the other hand, is without an Octagon win since his 2016 lightweight title triumph over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.
