Former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez made his first appearance on WWE Smackdown last night, clashing with former UFC opponent Brock Lesnar at the close of the show.

Lesnar, who had just reclaimed the WWE championship from Kofi Kingston, was met by Velasquez in the ring with both men clashing. Decorated amateur wrestler Velasquez, who scored a first round knockout over Lesnar in 2010 to begin his premier reign as division champion is also set to withdraw from the USADA testing pool, which would halt any Ultimate Fighting Championship comeback for the time being.

Rumblings in recent weeks suggested Velasquez was exploring the possibility of a career move to professional wrestling, and his appearance on the premier FOX Sports episode of WWE Smackdown rings true. Earlier this year, the California native made his professional wrestling bow in Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and a rematch with Lesnar, this time in a professional wrestling ring is on the horizon.

Velasquez, 37, who has been limited to just four Octagon appearances since 2013, successfully achieved champion status twice during his almost twelve year stint with the organization. Returning against perennial contender Francis Ngannou in February this year, Velasquez was stopped via strikes inside the opening thirty seconds of the first frame. During his mixed-martial arts career, Velasquez earned notable wins over Antonio Silva, Junior dos Santos, Cheick Kongo, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
