Wales V Belgium: What just happened.

Chris Coleman's Welsh side took on Marc Wilmots Belgian side with the winner facing Portugal in the semi finals of Euro 2016. Wales could be argued as the over achievers of the tournament allow with minnows Iceland as both sides find themselves in the quarter final stages. Belgium created the first half chance of the game with Chelsea winger sending a cross into the oncoming Romelu Lukaku but keeper Wayne Hennessy came and collected confidently. Wales then found themselves under real pressure form the Belgium side when Lukaku found Yannick Carrasco at Hennessy's near post but the Crystal Palace keeper kept him out before Hazard seen his rebound find off Williams and Ben Davies. Real Madrid speedster Gareth Bale showed his pace beating Alderweireld for pace and firing his shot into the side netting and out for a goal kick. Belgian then scored the opening goal inside 15 minutes when Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan about 30 yards from goal unleashed a rocket with flew past Hennessy and into the roof of the net to shock the travelling Welsh faithful. Nainggolan, rumoured to be of interest to Chelsea, will have certainly impressed his suitors with that strike. Centre back James Chester then found himself in the referee's note book after a trip on Lukaku as he becomes the 2nd Welsh centre half to receive a yellow card in the opening 20 minutes. Neil Taylor then found himself inside the Belgian penalty area and seen his shot kept out by Chelsea shot stopper Thibaut Courtois after a good delivery from Aaron Ramsey. Wales were starting to come onto the Belgians as they sought out an equaliser. Wales then finally found a deserving equaliser through captain Ashley Williams who rose highest from a corner and header past Courtois to tie up the game with 15 minutes to go in the first half. Wales nearly found themselves ahead when Gareth Bale beating Jason Denayer and producing a save from Courtois who a full stretch kept the game level. Belgium then from a corner found Toby Alderweireld who seen his tame header fall straight into Hennessy's hands as the game began to fizzle out wiht 5 minutes of the half to go. Wales then froma corner seen the ball fall on William's head but the Swansea man could only head high and wide this time. Robson Kanu seen his header easily saved by Courtois as the referee stopped for half time.

Marouane Fellaini came on for former Monaco winger Yannick Carrasco as the Belgians making the better start to the half with Lukaku putting his header wide after a good ball from full back Meunier. Moments later Kevin De Bruyne seen his shot float over the Welsh crossbar. Another chance fell to the Belgium side as Wales found themselves under the cosh with Hazard going close from just inside the area. Wales held out as Aaron Ramsey found Hal Robson Kanu in the box and with a sublime turn left the Belgian defence for dead and then showed great composure to make it 2-1. Marouane Fellaini then found himself in the referee's book and will miss the next match if Belgium were to find a way past a stout Wales defence. Wales then put Courtois under presure from a corner but the Chelsea man eventually gathered with Ashley Williams determined to get his second of the night. De Bruyne at the other end seen his free kick saved easily by Hennessy as Belgium still couldn't find their equaliser. With 20 minutes to go Belgium, pushing for that equaliser had been seeing a lot of the ball with Wales defence looking to hang on. Fellaini then seen a great chance flash wide from his header as Belgium began to run out of ideas. Leicester City midfielder Andy King replaced Joe Ledley who had been carrying a knock as the Leicester man was hoping for his second piece of silverware this season. Goalscorer Hal Robson Kanu then was replaced by Sam Vokes as the free agent hoped his goal would be the one that sent Wales through to the semis against Portugal. 8 minutes were left when the referee waved away Nainggolan's appeals for a penalty as Belgium were becoming more and more desperate. Wales then found their 3rd of the night with Sam Vokes rising like a salmon to head home Chris Gunter's cross to surely send Wales through to the Semi final meeting with Portugal. Soon to be Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi couldn't get on the end of Nainggolan's pass as Wales made it to the semi finals at the expense of the Belgians to set up a fairytale fixture with Portugal.
