Rose Namajunas V Karolina Kowalkiewicz: What just happened.

Top contenders Rose Namajunas and Karolina Kowalkiewicz battle in the UFC Strawweight division with the winner most likely facing Polish superstar Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the Strawweight championship. Namajunas is known as an aggressive fighter who likes to push forward and utilise her kicks. Kowalkiewicz on the other hand is a relaxed precise fighter holding a 9-0 record in her professional career. The opening round began with Kowalkiewicz the aggressor but Namajunas began to dominant the centre of the octagon as both fighters opened with leg kicks. Both fighters were cautious in the opening minute with 'Thug' Rose countering well. Rose was dominating the opening round landing some good counters as Kowalkiewicz was loading up as she approached. We then seen a decent exchange between the two Strawweights with just over a minute left in the first round. Karolina then found some good knees but was taken done by Namajunad but took her back as Rose then recovered to find full guard as the round ended. The second round opened with looking to keep Rose at bat with teep kicks to the body as they clinched up and Karolina landed some good elbows in the clinch. Rose then was victim to more good elbows and knees to the body. Then from a standing position, Namajunas seemed to look for an arm triangle as Karolina escaped with a good elbow. A front kick to the body by Rose sent Karolina to the mat but she quickly made it back to a standing position. Then from the clinch, Kowalkiewicz landed some good knees as the round drew to a close. The third and final round of this bout with Karolina again progressing forward. Rose looked very stiff in the final round as Kowalkiewicz looking to land more vicious knees and kicks. Then with just under 2 and a half minutes remaining Karolina landed some fantastic knees as the fight ended up on the ground with Kowalkiewicz in her guard as she then stacked the guard before eventually ended back up in full guard. Namajunas landed two decent up kicks as she tried some submission attempts as Karolina escaped with just 20 seconds left. Rose then looked for an Omoplata as the bell sounded as both warriors went the distance. Karolina Kowalkiewicz picked up her most important victory in the UFC as she looked to set up an all Polish Strawweight title fight against Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
