UFC President Dana White, has pumped the brakes on any potential pairing of former world champions Conor McGregor and Frankie Edgar. The pair exchanged words on Twitter on Wednesday night, where they both called for promotional head-honcho, White, to finalize the bout.

McGregor offered his potential fight purse from the possible December meeting to charity and first responders, while former lightweight best Edgar, explained how he had already agreed to meet with 'The Notorious' one. The pairing failed to materialize at featherweight, with McGregor deciding against remaining in the division after his title success against Jose Aldo. instead moving to 155 pounds.

Dana White, the UFC's shot caller, has made his intentions clear with the Boston Herald recently, explaining how he would not sanction McGregor vs. Edgar. "I said it leading into the (Floyd) Mayweather fight: He may never fight again after this fight when you make this kind of money. Conor (McGregor) loves to fight and wants to fight again, but the Frankie Edgar fight isn't going to happen. (Frankie) Edgar is two weight classes below him, was supposed to fight Aljamain Sterling. Aljamain (Sterling) fell out and got hurt. Frankie (Edgar) is coming to the end of his career, and he could end up getting himself into a title position again. To take the Conor (McGregor) fight makes no sense."

As mentioned by the promotion leader, Edgar was linked with a bantamweight drop and subsequent debut against perennial contender Aljamain 'Funk Master' Sterling ar November's UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden, until a hand injury which required surgery forced the Serra-Longo product off the card. Edgar, who most recently unsuccessfully challenged Max Holloway for featherweight gold, also hasn't fought at lightweight since 2012. SBGi staple McGregor on the other hand, is yet to return to the Octagon since his October 2018 submission loss to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

In the same interview, White did give an update on the fighting future of Crumlin born McGregor; he believes we could see the former lightweight and featherweight best in 2020. "I think Conor (McGregor) will fight next year."
