'Rumble' has campaigned for a second scheduling with Jones in recent months, this time at heavyweight, and during an appearance on Brendan Schaub's 'Below The Belt' YouTube series recently, the Georgia striker flirted with a cut to 205 pounds. Johnson walked away from the sport in 2017, after a second unsuccessful title tilt for light heavyweight gold against Daniel Cormier, but after spending the last year bodybuilding, has declared his intention to return to the USADA testing-pool ahead of a possible April, 2020 return to the sport.
Taking to his official Twitter page last night, Jones warned Johnson of a return to his former light heavyweight home. @JonnyBones "You better make sure you have that cardio together big fella @Anthony_Rumble." Without reply, Jones further promised to finish the 35-year-old if they were paired once more. @JonnyBones "We've always been cool but I'll be more than happy to choke you out if that's what you're looking for @Anthony_Rumble."
Jones, who most recently edged past Brazilian powerhouse Thiago 'Marreta' Santos has gone back-and-forth with newly minted middleweight champion Israel Adesanya on social media, who has called for a meeting with the Albuquerque based 'look-see-do' fighter. UFC Boston headliners Dominick Reyes and Chris Weidman have also called for a crack at the 205 pound champion recently, as well as UFC 244 features Corey Anderson and Johnny Walker. Before his UFC 210 loss to Cormier, 'Rumble' Johnson had flattened Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader and in just thirteen seconds, Glover Teixeira in a terryfying three fight rise.
