Conor McGregor Leans Toward Khabib Nurmagomedov Win In Tony Ferguson Matchup

Despite their bitter rivalry, former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor has picked Khabib Nurmagomedov to ultimately overcome newest challenger Tony Ferguson, ahead of a rumoured March 2020 meeting. Dagestani sambo specialist Nurmagomedov has recently called for a March date with long-time perennial contender Ferguson, as the pair attempt to finally meet in the Octagon after four previously failed matchups.

McGregor, is currently in the Ukraine with betting company Parimatch, which the 31-year-old is an ambassador for, ahead of a trip to Moscow on Thursday, where the Dubliner will hold a press conference. The SBGi product posted a picture on his official Twitter page on Saturday, in which he appeared to obtained a Russian visa. The press conference is largely believed to help promote his whiskey, Proper 12, which just dropped in Russia last week. It is also believed McGregor will discuss his possible fighting return at the gathering.

Ahead of the press event, McGregor gave his thoughts on the potential meeting of Khabib and Ferguson early next year. "It'll be an interesting one. I think Khabib (Nurmagomedov) would probably beat him. Any one can win on any given day. Tony (Ferguson) is a formidable fighter also, he's very, very tough. He does go down, he does get dropped, his guard has been passed, he's been mounted by a lesser fighter. I would favour Khabib (Nurmagomedov) in that bout."

The Crumlin striker is himself yet to return to active-competition since his October 2018 loss to Khabib at UFC 229, in which he dropped just his second Octagon loss, this time via a fourth round neck crank. In terms of welcoming parties upon a potential return, Justin Gaethje has long called for the matchup with McGregor, with his request falling on deaf ears so far. McGregor did issue a call out to former fellow lightweight best Frankie Edgar last week, with promotion president Dana White refusing to ink the fight.

A matchup with the veteran Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone has been circulating for what seems like years now, but according to Roufusport coach Duke Roufus, former WEC and Octagon lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, and Cerrone have verbally agreed to rematch.
