The UFC Considering Hosting An Event In London This August

Limited to events in Las Vegas, Nevada -- Jacksonville, Florida -- and Abu Dhabi, UAE since April of last year amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the UFC have reportedly considered the month of August coming for a potential event in London, England. 

Set to welcome a full attendance at the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas this weekend for UFC 262, the promotion travelled back to Jacksonville, Florida in April for UFC 261 -- holding a pay-per-view event at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena with an open gate to attendees to boot.

In June, the promotion is slated to feature UFC 263 in Glendale, Arizona at the Gila River Arena with another gate open to spectators. And on July 10th. -- the organization are set to return to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada for the first time since UFC 248 last March as they field a lightweight title-eliminator rubber match between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor at UFC 264.

According to a report from ESPN MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, with the upcoming pay-per-view event schedule set and lodged, the promotion is considering hosting an event in London, England this August. And while not finalized yet according to Helwani, the promotion is considering an August landing pad, with discussions already taken place.

The UFC was initially slated to feature a UFC Fight Night London event back in March of last year at the O2 Arena, with a potential welterweight title-eliminator between former champion, Tyron Woodley and the #3 ranked contender, Leon Edwards slated to take main event honours.

The entire event as well as the scheduled showdown between now promotional alum, Woodley and Edwards were subsequently shelved amid the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, with travel restrictions preventing Edwards' travel to the United States -- scrapping a planned rescheduling. 

Whilst not finalised as of writing, some notable contenders to feature at the potential event spring to mind, including former welterweight title challenger, the #6 rated middleweight, Darren Till.

The Liverpudlian was slated to take main event status opposite Marvin Vettori at UFC on ABC 2 last April, until a broken collarbone forced him from proceedings. 

Till headlined the promotion's most recent trip to the country's capital back in March of 2019, where he dropped a heavy second round knockout defeat to two-time welterweight title challenger, Jorge Masvidal. The bout came as Team Kaobon mainstay, Till's last at 170lbs. 

Other contenders likely to find themselves booked on a card if it materialises are the likes of streaking featherweight talent, Arnold Allen, as well as former Cage Warriors featherweight titleholder, Paddy Pimblett, with the latter expecting to make his promotional bow at an event that houses fans. Manchester standouts, Tom Aspinall and Lerone Murphy are also sure to be considered for appearances at the potential showcase.
