Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov hospitalized in Russia with suspected pneumonia
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, is currently being treated for pneumonia in the Second City Hospital in Makhachkala, Russia - according to Degastani reporter, Ramazan Rabadanov.
Nurmagomedov, a renowned combat sambo coach in his native Dagestan, is reportedly suffering from flu and pneumonia-like symptoms, however, he's yet to be diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
The 57-year-old, along with former M-1 Global welterweight best, Shamil Zavurov, and other athletes have also fallen ill. Rabadanov explained how Nurmagomedov had "got sick in the mountains." The reporter posted a picture of Abdulmanap on his official Instagram account, detailing his battle with pneumonia.
"(Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov) almost managed to build a park, took out the trash, planted an alley from new trees, put beautiful benches along the roads, and yesterday didn't come to the park. Hopefully, the (sic) pneumonia doesn't catch my friend and he comes to the park again."
Speaking with Championet.com in the evening, Rabadanov revealed that Nurmagomedov was currently being treated in hospital, after some persuasion.
"Abdulmanap is in Makhachkala, in the Second City Hospital. He got sick in the mountains. He walked for two days, the brothers barely persuaded [him] to go to the hospital. While coronavirus is not confirmed. They say [he has] the flu. No one is allowed to visit him. The world champion, Shamil Zavurov also fell ill. They say there are other sick athletes."
In recent years, Abdulmanap has been unable to attend his son, Khabib's UFC appearances, as he struggles to obtain a valid VISA to enter the United States. However, the trainer featured in Khabib's corner for his UFC 242 unification bout against Dustin Poirier, in Abu Dhabi last September.
