A lightweight matchup between contenders, Alexander 'The Great' Hernandez, and Drew Dober is expected to take place at a UFC Fight Night event on May 13th. at the VyStar Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Hernandez - was recently removed from a pairing with Islam Makhachev at the first attempted UFC 249 card on April 18th. - after the event's postponement. Makhachev was subsequently, like compatriot, Khabib Nurmagomedov, unable to return to the United States after travel restrictions imposed, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, prevented his reentry. Omaha challenger, Dober was expected to meet with Diego Ferreira at UFC Fight Night Oklahoma City on May 2nd. - until the cancellation of that event. News of the targeted pairing was first reported by MMA Junkie writers, Nolan King and Farah Hannoun.

St. Louis, Missouri native, Hernandez, is attempting to extend his win streak to two fights, following a unanimous decision triumph over the tricky, Francisco Trinaldo last July at UFC Fight Night San Antonio. The 27-year-old prospect joined the UFC's lightweight ranks back in March of 2018 - making a huge impact with a knockout of talented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu player, Beneil Dariush. Following the victory over the Iranian-born grappler, Hernandez took a unanimous decision win over Olivier Aubin-Mercier. 'The Great' suffered his first promotional defeat to Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone at UFC Fight Night Brooklyn last January - in a heated affair. Hernandez currently holds the #15 rank at 155-pounds.

Long time feature, Dober, has been on somewhat of a tear as of late. The 31-year-old has managed two consecutive knockouts, finishing Marco Polo Reyes, and then uber-prospect, Nasrat Haqparast - both in the premier frame. The former welterweight feature kicked off his Octagon stint back in late 2013 and has managed big wins over former WEC lightweight champion, Jamie Varner, Scott Holzmann, Josh Burkman, Frank Camacho, and Jason Gonzalez. A third win on the trot for Dober may see him topple the lightweight's top-fifteen, leapfrogging Hernandez in the process.

The UFC Fight Night event takes place on May 13th. from the VyStar Arena in Jacksonville, Florida - with a light heavyweight meeting between former title challenger, Anthony Smith and  Glover Teixeira serving as event headliner. Making his heavyweight debut, Ovince Saint Preux tackles the aforementioned, Ben Rothwell. At 125-pounds, former championship contender, Ray Borg meets with Ricky Simón.
