UFC London competitors compensated $20,000 after event's cancellation

The cancelled UFC Fight Night London event, scheduled for March 21st. resulted in some unsure financial implications for the partaking fighters. Twenty-four from twenty-six competitors were left without bouts due to complications surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with Darren Stewart, and Bartosz Fabiński clashing at Cage Warriors 113 instead.
ESPN reporter, Ariel Helwani, revealed how he had been informed that fighters who were scheduled to compete at The O2 Arena for the March return to the U.K., "received no more than $20,000".
For event headliners, former welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, and perennial contender, Leon Edwards, that sum falls considerably short for the former gold holders most prior outing. St. Louis native, Woodley, managed a disclosed $500,000 payday from his unsuccessful title defence against Kamaru Usman back at UFC 235. Streaking contender, Edwards, collected a $68,000 paycheck after his victory over Rafael dos Anjos in July of last year. The Birmingham based striker received $29,000 to show, with the remainder of his purse coming as a result of a win bonus, and a fight week incentive pay.
Helwani further explained how fighters who had received hefty paychecks for prior bouts, were obviously unhappy with the amount compensated, while other competitors were thankful for a payday despite the cancellation of their matches.
A reported $20,000 payout for those twenty-six scheduled competitors would result in an overall bill of $520,000 in fight purses.
