UFC Dublin in jeopardy as government deny mass gathering licenses until the end of August

The UFC's return to the Emerald Isle may have been put on ice for the time being. The promotion was scheduled to a host a 'Fight Night' event in the nation's capital on August 16th. - with the Irish government detailing how they will deny licenses on mass gatherings of more than five thousand attendees until the end of August, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The 3Arena in Dublin's dockland area was set to host the event, but with the newly implemented measures, an event taking place on August 16th. seems incredibly unlikely.

On Tuesday afternoon, a statement was issued where local authorities were informed by the Irish government that events which require licenses for five-thousand attendees or more would be denied said licenses until the culmination of August. Cabinet ministers were also informed how major gatherings would have to be struck off until September at the very earliest.

As for the UFC, the organization is expected to return to schedule as early as May 9th., with event's occurring on a weekly basis following that event. Last week, it was revealed the promotion had filed up to twenty-two trademarks for 'Fight Island' and 'UFC Fight Island', as promotional president, Dana White plans on hosting events with both United States and international-based fighters on a private island in the coming months.
