UFC Fight Island slated for June, Octagon to feature on a beach

The UFC is pushing full steam ahead with their plans for, 'Fight Island' - with infrastructure in place for events to be hosted on a private island as early as June. Events are expected to take place on the island, with the promotion's Octagon situated on a beach. Hotels will also be provided for fighters to stay in ahead of the events expected to take place. Promotional president, Dana White revealed the news to ESPN reporter, Brett Okamoto.
"We really are putting an Octagon on the beach," White said. "There's going to be training facilities there for people. There are hotels, and all the infrastructure is going to be built for the UFC to have fights there."
Earlier on Friday evening, White explained how the organisation will field four events between May 9th. and May 23rd. with UFC 249, an event on May 13th. and May 16th. scheduled to take place at the VyStar Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The promotion also hopes to return to the UFC Apex facility in 'Sin City' for a pay-per-view event on June 6th., however, those plans are tentative at the time of writing, with the Nevada State Athletic Commission yet to approve the event.
Okamoto further explained how, "once things go back to normal, Fight Island will likely get retired."
The promotion was forced to shelve plans to feature UFC 249 on April 18th., amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic - after it's expected occurrence at the Tachi Palace Resort Casino in Lemoore, California. UFC 249 has since been rescheduled for May 9th. and is headlined by an interim lightweight title meeting between surging contenders, Tony Ferguson, and Justin Gaethje.
