A Featherweight Grand Prix semi-final between undefeated prospect, A.J. 'Mercenary' McKee (16-0), and submission-specialist, Darrion 'The Wolf' Caldwell (15-3) has been matched for Bellator 244 on June 6th. in Chicago - per an official press release from the promotion.
McKee, 24, has set the ranks of Bellator's featherweight ranks ablaze since his promotional bow back in 2015 - managing an opening-round Grand Prix win over Georgi Karakhanyan, and then a quarter-final stoppage of Derek Campos in his last outing in December. The Long Beach native has displayed some of the most well-rounded attributes in recent Bellator memory, scoring eleven stoppages, six by way of knockout and five via submission.
Caldwell, 32, recently managed an opening round quarter-final tie submission over Adám Borics, following an opening-round decision triumph over Henry Corrales. The former Bellator bantamweight champion, dropped a pair of defeats to Japan outlier, Kyoji Horiguchi back in 2018, and 2019, losing his 135-pound crown, and failed to become the inaugural Rizin FF bantamweight gold-holder. Since his move to featherweight, Caldwell has gone 2-0.
Both McKee and Caldwell are sure to have a keen eye on proceedings in Connecticut this weekend, as two-weight world champion, Patricio 'Pitbull' puts his featherweight title up for grabs when he takes on Pedro Carvalho.
Bellator 244 takes place on June 6th. from Chicago, Illinois, and is expected to be headlined by a lightweight rematch between former promotional lightweight champion, Michael Chandler, and former UFC and WEC 155-pound best, Benson Henderson.
