Tony Ferguson to Khabib Nurmagomedov: Travel bans will not prevent me from whoopin' that ass

Perennial lightweight contender, and former interim champion, Tony 'El Cucuy' Ferguson faces yet another dilemma ahead of a fifth scheduled pairing with arch-rival, Khabib 'The Eagle' Nurmagomedov. The Californian is still on home soil, putting the finishing touches to his training camp ahead of an April 18th. main event at UFC 249 - while Nurmagomedov is stuck in Russia due to a national lockdown.

The likelihood of Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson taking place on April 18th. was already in jeopardy due to the novel coronavirus pandemic - but with Khabib currently stranded in Russia, unable to travel, a matchup is almost certainly impossible at this stage.

Taking to his official Twitter account on Sunday night, the twelve fight streaking number-one contender urged Nurmagomedov to agree to a location, and explained how his lockdown in Russia wouldn't prevent an eventual, "ass whoppin'".

With Nurmagomedov stranded in Russia, he has explained how the UFC may attempt to secure a short-notice replacement for Tony Ferguson, keeping the 10th. Planet Jiu-Jitsu black belt on the UFC 249 card. Promotional president, Dana White has reiterated his willingness to keep both the majority of the card and the event itself intact - behind both closed doors and a closed gate. The UFC's last outing took place in March at UFC Fight Night Brasília.
