Jon Jones arrested for DWI and negligent use of firearm in New Mexico

Current UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon 'Bones' Jones has found himself back in hot water with law enforcement - as the 32-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning for aggravated DWI (driving while intoxicated) and negligent use of a firearm, and couldn't provide proof of insurance. Jones has since been released from police custody. News of the incident was initially reported by MMA Fighting staff writer, Damon Martin.

Jones was arrested in Albuquerque after reports of gunshots and supplied a breathalyzer test to the attending officers which subsequently registered twice above the legal limit. A handgun and an open bottle of Recuerdo was also found in Jones' vehicle. It's currently unknown if Jones discharged the weapon but he reiterated that he wasn't aware of the reported gunshots. His vehicle was towed and upon investigation, a round casing was discovered which matched the calibre of the gun found under Jones' driver seat.

Jones, who plys his trade at Jackson-Wink MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has had prior run-ins with police and the judicial system before. The New York-born look-see-do fighter was arrested back in 2015 for his involvement in a hit-and-run incident involving a pregnant woman. Jones fled the scene before turning himself in after an arrest warrant was filed.

Three years prior, Jones was arrested once more - this time after his Bentley Continental GT collided with a telephone pole in his native 'Big Apple'. Jones was again found to have been operating a vehicle while under the influence.

The two-time light heavyweight champion, last featured at UFC 247 in February this year, narrowly taking a unanimous decision win against perennial contender, Dominick Reyes.
