It seems a rematch between former interim lightweight best, Dustin Poirier and former lightweight and featherweight best, Conor McGregor is building up a head of steam.

UFC president, Dana White revealed this afternoon that a contract for the potential re-run was on the table for January 23rd. coming - but only on that date. McGregor had, of course, called for a matchup with Poirier in November or December of this year instead, ideally at either UFC 255 or UFC 256. With both those cards now occupied with two championship clashes apiece - White claimed the promotion couldn't shuffle their schedule to accommodate the Dubliner.

With tonight's developments - it seems they may not have to after all. Taking to his official Twitter account, McGregor explained how he "accepts" the proposed date, calling for the clash to take place at the Dallas Cowboys stadium in Dallas, Texas.

"I accept, Jan 23rd is on! My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans! Then Manny (Pacquiao). #McGregorSportsandEntertainment"

The 32-year-old explained earlier this week that he was hoping to score a matching with southpaw boxing specialist, Poirier in preparation for a speculated boxing venture opposite world champion, Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao in the early goings of 2021. Based on the above tweet - it seems those plans are still in place.

A January pairing with Poirier would come just over a year removed from his January 18th. clash with Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone at UFC 246 in Las Vegas earlier this annum. Returning to winning ways - the Straight Blast Gym mainstay scored a forty-second knockout win over the future Hall of Famer.

Making his last appearance at UFC Vegas 4 in a headlining clash with the then-streaking, Dan Hooker - Lafayette fan-favourite Poirier also returned to the winner's enclosure with a unanimous decision win over the Kiwi.
