Report: Conor McGregor Open to November or December Rematch With Dustin Poirier

A long-awaited rematch between former world champions, Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor seems to have more than just legs at the moment - as a re-run six year's after the fact inches closer to reality.

Dublin native, McGregor had recently challenged UFC 178 opponent, Poirier to a charity mixed martial arts bout in Ireland on December 12th. - pledging $500,000 to Poirier's The Good Fight Foundation. Detailing how the UFC would have no involvement in promoting the event, with the matchup falling under the McGregor Sports & Entertainment bracket, Lousiana favourite, Poirier accepted.

With many questioning first the legitimacy of the pairing and then whether or not either could feature given their contractual allegiance to the UFC - promotional president, Dana White revealed he had offered the pair a rematch for a date reported to be January 23rd. of next year.

American Top Team trainee, Poirier is reported to have accepted the bout agreement to re-run his last featherweight appearance opposite McGregor over the weekend - with the UFC waiting to hear back from Team McGregor.

Pondering the possibility of a matchup with the former lightweight and featherweight champion last night, Poirier took to his official Twitter to ask; "Hey @TheNotoriousMMA what's up?"

Receiving a response this afternoon, McGregor detailed how he had also accepted his bout agreement sent by the promotion - but maintained the matchup would take place this annum, as well as sticking to his word of donating half a million dollars to The Good Fight Foundation.

"Hello Dustin (Poirier)! I accepted the @ufc offer to fight you, but told them it must happen in 2020. I'm ready for Nov. 21st, given that cards recent injury issues, as well as any of the December dates, the 12th and the 19th. I'll also still donate the $500k to The Good Fight Foundation."

In regards to the November 21st. date McGregor mentioned - that UFC 255 card was scheduled to be headlined by a flyweight title tilt between Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt, with the latter replaced by streaking contender, Alex Perez having suffered a torn bicep last Monday.

The UFC's December 12th. event which would've coincided with the planned charity outing is UFC 256 - with a recent welterweight title clash between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns falling to the wayside, with Usman citing a need for more time to recover from an undisclosed injury.

The December 19th. event is slated as a 'Fight Night' card - with recent reports suggesting the promotion had tentatively planned a welterweight main event between two-time title challenger, Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson, and rising force, Khamzat Chimaev for that card.

Last making his Octagon appearance at UFC Fight Night Vegas in June - former interim lightweight best, Poirier took home a unanimous judging win over Dan Hooker in a five-round headliner.

For McGregor, the Straight Blast Gym staple snapped a fifteen-month hiatus in January of this year - taking headlining honours at UFC 246 opposite Donald Cerrone, securing a welterweight knockout win inside forty-seconds.
