It seems streaking bantamweight contender, Marlon 'Chito' Vera may get his wish after all. The surging Ecuadorian has called for a pairing with former UFC featherweight champion, and recent bantamweight title challenger, José Aldo 'Jr. next - with a matchup between the pair currently in the works for UFC 255 on November 21st. from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Manaus favourite, Aldo looks to snap a three-fight slide and score his first victory at his new 135-pound home since his drop to the division in November of last year - following a fifth-round knockout loss to current champion, Petr 'No Mercy' Yan in a vacant title tilt at UFC 251 in July on 'Fight Island'.
With six straight successes at bantamweight, popular all-rounder, Vera recently returned from a contentious featherweight loss opposite Song Yadong in May - to score an upset win over the then-undefeated, 'Sugar' Sean O'Malley at UFC 252 in August. News of the earmarked pairing was first penned by Combate reporter, Raphael Marinho.
Prior to his stoppage loss against Yan in July, Aldo had dropped a very close decision defeat to striking compatriot, 'Magic' Marlon Moraes at UFC 245 in December in his bantamweight bow. The loss came after another decision blemish to current featherweight kingpin, Alexander 'The Great' Volkanovksi in May of last year. The defeat marked Aldo's final appearance at 145-pounds.
An iconic veteran of the sport, the 34-year-old Brazilian had managed a resurgence at featherweight prior to his judging loss to Volkanovski, scoring knockout wins over Jeremy Stephens, and countryman, Renato Moicano.
The promotion's first undisputed featherweight champion, Aldo scored successful title defences opposite Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian, Chad Mendes (x2), Frankie Edgar, Chan Sung Jung, and Ricardo Lamas.
With a 16-6 record, 27-year-old Chone native, Vera seems to be hitting his stride at 135-pounds six years deep into his promotional stint. Prior to his win over O'Malley and his loss to Yadong, the Team Oyama trainee scored victories over Andre Ewell, Nohelin Hernandez, Frankie Saenz, Guido Cannetti, and Weiliji Buren.
UFC 255 takes place on November 21st. from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada - with a flyweight title clash of Aldo's compatriot, Deiveson Figueiredo, and Vera's teammate, Alex Perez slated to take headlining honours. In our co-main event, flyweight gold holder, Valentina Shevchenko clashes with former Invicta FC 125-pound titleholder, Jennifer Maia.
