The proposed first attempted flyweight title defence of incumbent champion, Deiveson 'Daico' Figueiredo needs reworking.

The Brazilian was scheduled to headline UFC 255 on November 21st. opposite former bantamweight best, Cody 'No Love' Garbrandt - with reasons yet to be disclosed forcing the latter from the contest. According to Combate reporters, Marcelo Barone and Raphael Marinho, the promotion now looks to streaking contender, Alex Perez to take Garbrandt's spot at UFC 255 - with the pairing currently in the works.

Figueiredo secured the then-vacant 125-pound crown at a UFC Fight Island event in July, scoring a second consecutive win over veteran title hopeful, Joseph Benavidez - with a one-sided rear-naked choke win in the opening round. The Brazilian all-rounded scored a March knockout win over Benavidez but a botched weight-cut left him ineligible to win the crown on that occasion at UFC Fight Night Norfolk.

For the would-be challenger, Garbrandt - the hopeful division debutante recently halted a three-fight knockout slide at UFC 250 in June, launching a Knockout of the Year contender with a buzzer-beating overhand finish of Raphael Assunção.

Team Oyama mainstay, Perez is the frontrunner to replace Garbrandt in the main event tilt, earning his premier promotional title challenge off the back of an eye-catching three-fight win streak. Earning a unanimous judging win over Mark De La Rosa, Perez then submitted Jordan Espinosa with a first-round arm-triangle in January. In a standout performance, the 28-year-old Californian also featured at UFC 250 - taking a first-round knockout win over perennial contender, Jussier Formiga with a barrage of damaging calf kicks.
