Originally scheduled to meet with Shamil Gamzatov, streaking challenger, Devin 'Brown Bear' Clark has a new opponent for his trip to Las Vegas on November 28th. VISA issues have reportedly ruled Gamzatov out of the pairing - with recent light heavyweight title challenger, Anthony 'Lionheart' Smith replacing the Russian, meeting Clark on short-notice.
Unbeaten in his last two, Clark most recently featured at UFC 250 in June - taking an upset victory over knockout artist, Alonzo Menifield via a unanimous decision win.
Hoping to snap a two-fight skid, veteran Nebraska native, Smith last featured as UFC Vegas 8 in a short-notice main event tilt opposite rising contender, Aleksandar Rakić, dropping a one-sided judging defeat over three-rounds. News of the reworked tie was initially reported by MMA Junkie reporters, Mike Bohn and Nolan King.
30-year-old Sioux Falls, South Dakota native Clark - looks to score the most high-profile victory of his career when paired with Smith on November 28th. Prior to his underdog victory over Menifield - Clark managed to take home a unanimous decision win over Dequan Townsend.
An experienced customer, Clark has dropped prior losses to common foe, Rakić - as well as a second-round rear-naked choke defeat to current division best, Jan Błachowicz. In other notable wins, Clark has bested the likes of Jake Collier, Mike Rodríguez, and Darko Stošić.
After unsuccessfully prying the light heavyweight crown from former two-time champion, Jon Jones at UFC 235 in March of last year - Smith rebounded to the winner's enclosure with a submission win over three-time title chaser, Alexander Gustaffson.
Before his above-mentioned loss to Austrian upstart, Rakić - the Factory X mainstay had suffered a brutal fifth-round knockout loss to fellow one-time championship challenger, Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville in May.
