Donald Cerrone V Jorge Masvidal: What will go down:
Fan favourite UFC Welterweight Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone, will be looking to solidify his title contender status on Saturday night, when he meets highly experienced striker Jorge 'Gamebred' Masvidal. Cerrone has set the 170lbs division alight since his move from Lightweight, amassing a four fight win streak since his loss to Rafael Dos Anjos, most recently finishing Matt Brown emphatically after weathering a storm. Both 'Cowboy' and Masvidal have an incredible 63 wins between them, without ever reaching championship status in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Masvidal's last contest wasn't without it's controversy, with a cage malfunction allowing American Top Team trainee Jorge to finish Jake Ellenberger. Cerrone has some of the most impressive Muay Thai and Kickboxing currently on show in the organisation, breaking John Makdessi's jaw when the two met at UFC 187, also landing a slick combination to stop Rick 'The Horror' Story. Cerrone already has his eyes on his next opponent, hoping to land a potential title eliminator bout against Robbie Lawler or Demian Maia in March with a win over Masvidal. Florida native Masvidal, is equally established on the feet, a natural boxer with a wicked spinning back kick, with early KO wins over Joe Lauzon and Yves Edwards on his record. Cerrone is also a hugely underrated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, a black belt under Eliot Marshall. Expect Cerrone to be more than capable on the ground, and on the feet.
Donald Cerrone via knockout.
