MMA favourite Tim Kennedy announces his retirement:

Former two time Strikeforce Middleweight title contender Tim Kennedy, has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts, citing his poor performance against Kelvin Gastelum as a sign it was time to hang up his gloves. The United States Army Sergeant, competed in both Strikeforce and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, amassing an impressive record of 18-6 in the process. Kennedy unsuccessfully challenged Ronaldo 'Jacaré' Souza and Luke Rockhold for the Middleweight crown, but regardless of those defeats, the fan favourite Kennedy holds impressive wins over current UFC Middleweight champ Michael Bisping, former UFC Welterweight king Robbie Lawler, and top contenders Melvin Manhoef and Jason 'Mayhem' Miller. Kennedy a very respected black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Royler Gracie, was on a two fight slide when he announced his retirement, losing a hugely controversial bout against Yoel Romero, before being outboxed by weight crook Kelvin Gastelum back at UFC 206. Kennedy was regarded by many as a fantastic wrestler with a seemingly endless 'gas tank', but took to social media to tell how his eventual knockout loss to Gastelum, was the first time he had felt "tired" in a bout. Regardless of recent form, Kennedy will go down as one of the bravest men both inside and out of the octagon, stepping in against deadly strikers Robbie Lawler and Melvin Manhoef, and also fighting in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars at the same time. Kennedy spoke openly about his decision, admirably telling how it was the right time and how he had seen fellow mixed martial artists reach the same stage as him and elect to continue fighting.
