A flyweight title matchup between reigning champion, Valentina 'Bullet' Shevchenko, and perennial contender, Joanne 'JoJo' Calderwood is expected to feature at UFC 251 on June 6th. Shevchenko recently managed a ground-and-pound victory over Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 247 earlier this month, with Scottish Muay Thai practitioner, Calderwood, managing a narrow, split decision triumph over Angela Lee at UFC 242 last September. News of the pairing was initially reported by ESPN staff writer, Brett Okamoto.

Since her move to 125-pounds back in February of 2018, Kyrgyzstan native, Shevchenko, has been simply dominant. Five straight wins, and three consecutive successful title defences. The 31-year-old recently finished the aforementioned Chookagian, after a dominant rematch win over Liz Carmouche, and a highlight-reel high-kick knockout of Jessica Eye last June.

Irvine native, Calderwood earns her first Octagon championship opportunity in June, following three wins and a single defeat since her return to flyweight. The 33-year-old striker has lodged victories over Kalindra Faria, Ariane Lipski, and as noted earlier, bested Angela Lee back at UFC 242. Calderwood has a storied kickboxing background, having competed in Thailand, England and her native Scotland before her Octagon debut back in 2015.
