Schnell enters the affair with Bontorin off the back of a January UFC Fight Island 8 split decision win over Tyson Nam. The win prevented a two-fight slide, following a knockout loss to Bontorin's compatriot, Alexandre Pantoja.
Hoping to snap a two-fight skid himself, Bontorin featured at UFC 259 at the UFC Apex facility in March, where he dropped a late first-round knockout defeat to City Kickboxing standout, Kai Kara-France. News of the rescheduled matchup was first reported by MMA Junkie reporter, Farah Hannoun.
Schnell, a former Legacy FC flyweight champion has featured eight times under the UFC's banner since his move to the promotion back in December of 2016.
Initially landing with a two-fight slide, Schnell dropped a pair of knockout losses to upcoming headliner, Rob Font, as well as Hector Sandoval. Embarking on a four-fight rise prior to his knockout defeat to Pantoja, Schnell managed to take home wins over Marco Beltran, Naoki Inoue, Louis Smolka, and Jordan Espinosa.
Bontorin, a product of Dana White's Contender Series back in August of 2018 -- suffered his first promotional losses as part of his two-fight slide recently.
Taking home a debut win over Magomed Bibulatov, Bontorin then scored a doctor's stoppage success against Raulian Paiva.
UFC 262 takes place on May 15th. from the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas -- with a vacant lightweight title clash between the #3 ranked contender, Charles Oliveira, and the #4 ranked, Michael Chandler taking main event honours.
