Report - Alex Perez Out, Matt Schnell Now Faces Rogerio Bontorin At UFC 262 On May 15th.

The flyweight matchup between one-time title challenger, Alex Perez and Matt 'Danger' Schnell has fallen to the wayside ahead of its UFC 262 landing pad on May 15th. -- with recent Brazilian feature, Rogerio Bontorin replacing Perez on short notice. The event is scheduled to take place at the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas.

Posting on his official Twitter account in reaction to the reworked clash, Perez confirmed his withdrawal due to injury.

"Unfortunately due to injury I have to pull out of my fight in May," Perez wrote. "I'll be back better than ever! Thank you everyone for all the support."

 


Schnell enters the affair with Bontorin off the back of a January UFC Fight Island 8 split decision win over Tyson Nam. The win prevented a two-fight slide, following a knockout loss to Bontorin's compatriot, Alexandre Pantoja.

Hoping to snap a two-fight skid himself, Bontorin featured at UFC 259 at the UFC Apex facility in March, where he dropped a late first-round knockout defeat to City Kickboxing standout, Kai Kara-France. News of the rescheduled matchup was first reported by MMA Junkie reporter, Farah Hannoun

Schnell, a former Legacy FC flyweight champion has featured eight times under the UFC's banner since his move to the promotion back in December of 2016.

Initially landing with a two-fight slide, Schnell dropped a pair of knockout losses to upcoming headliner, Rob Font, as well as Hector Sandoval. Embarking on a four-fight rise prior to his knockout defeat to Pantoja, Schnell managed to take home wins over Marco Beltran, Naoki Inoue, Louis Smolka, and Jordan Espinosa. 

Bontorin, a product of Dana White's Contender Series back in August of 2018 -- suffered his first promotional losses as part of his two-fight slide recently.

Taking home a debut win over Magomed Bibulatov, Bontorin then scored a doctor's stoppage success against Raulian Paiva.

UFC 262 takes place on May 15th. from the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas -- with a vacant lightweight title clash between the #3 ranked contender, Charles Oliveira, and the #4 ranked, Michael Chandler taking main event honours.
