Colby Covington Tells 'Conman McGregor' To 'Sit The F*ck Down' Amid Plans For A Welterweight Title Run

Former interim UFC welterweight champion, Colby Covington, the likely next challenger to Kamaru Usman's undisputed throne, has taken umbrage with former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor's plans to make a siege toward the 170-pound title in the future.

Covington, who was in attendance at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, watched on as Usman managed to score a shocking second round knockout win over his former American Top Team teammate, Jorge Masvidal -- securing his fourth successful title defence. 

Prior to the main event clash, UFC president, Dana White outlined how if Usman could overcome Masvidal for the second time in the space of a year, former opponent, Covington would be next to meet with the Auchi-born phenom in a title re-run.

Reacting to Usman's knockout win, the above-mentioned, McGregor, who has claimed recently that Usman has been copying a number of his one-liners, explained that Usman was now copying his strikes --announcing intentions to secure a third UFC title in the future. 

"(Kamaru) Usman even copying my shots now," McGregor tweeted. "Am I to fight this guy at some stage? I think so. (He) Can't be copying my words and my shots and not get a smack for it. I like 170 (-pounds). It's (the title) mine soon."

In response, Usman claimed that McGregor can't even finish opponents at lightweight anymore, whilst detailing that he stops his opponents, while McGregor now gets stopped himself following the Dubliner's UFC 257 knockout defeat to Dustin Poirier in January.

"Expect when I touch you at 170, they go out," Usman wrote. "They don't even go out at 155 anymore for you. I finish people. You get finished."

Giving his thoughts on McGregor's claims that he would soon pursue a welterweight title shot, Covington describes those plans as "laughable".

"I think it’s laughable. It’s comical," Covington said during a recent interview with Submission Radio. "I mean, you (Conor McGregor) just got sparked by Dustin Soyrier (Dustin Poirier). Go ask Dustin Soyrier about the times we used to train together. He used to cry. He left the gym crying. He’d tell his coach Mike Brown, ‘oh man, Colby’s so tough, I can’t stop him. Why is he so good? Why is his pace too much and I quit like a little bitch?’"

"So, you just got sparked by Dustin Soyrier, so sit the f*ck down Conman McGregor. You couldn’t even knock that old man off a stool, how you gonna knock off greatness and the greatest welterweight of all time? I think it’s funny. He’s just trying to put his name in the hat and keep some hype out there like he’s actually a winnable fighter. Dude, the guy has nothing left. You made all your money, you’re cashed out. You’re not hungry. We get it, guy. Just go away, fade off into the darkness and leave this to the guys that are still hungry and motivated.”

Whilst Covington is most likely next in line for Usman, McGregor will have to revert attention to the above-mentioned, Poirier, who he is scheduled to meet in a lightweight rubber match on July 10th. at UFC 264 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
