Video - Conor McGregor Posts Light-Footed Kickboxing Heavy Training Footage

Preparing for his July 10th. UFC 264 trilogy matchup with former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier, former two-weight titleholder, Conor McGregor has posted some training footage ahead of the headlining bout -- displaying a light-footed, kick heavy approach to heavy bag work.

McGregor, who headlined UFC 257 in January on 'Fight Island' -- made his first Octagon walk since a January 2020 knockout win over Donald Cerrone, drawing Poirier in a rematch six years following their UFC 178 clash at featherweight.

Attempting to potentially earn a lightweight title challenge and possibly a rematch with the retired, Khabib Nurmagomedov, McGregor dropped his first professional knockout defeat in mixed martial arts -- via a spectacular second-round barrage from Poirier.

Afterward, McGregor was criticized for his approach to the matchup, with many pundits questioning a boxing-oriented stance, with weight plodded heavily on his lead southpaw. Capatisiling on the square approach from the Dubliner, Poirier immediately found his range from the onset and throughout with numerous punishing calf kicks, leaving McGregor's mobility severely compromised.

Inking fight deals to round out their trilogy with a July 10th. rubber-match, McGregor who is still located in the Middle East amid his January defeat, posted some training footage this morning, which appears to display a return to a bouncing almost karate style which became a staple of his game during his rise to the featherweight throne back in 2014 and 2015.

Bouncing on the balls of his feet and stance switching from southpaw to conventional in a series of Instagram stories (H/T Chisanga Malata), the 32-year-old offered up a series of round kicks, as well as switch-front kicks, however, most notably maybe, McGregor seems to revert to a light-footed approach for the time being anyway.
