Following their Bellator 258 main card clash back in May, former lightweight title challenger, Patricky 'Pitbull' Freire has called for a rematch with opponent, Peter 'The Showstopper' Queally -- after their back-and-forth came to its conclusion via a second round doctor's stoppage.
"I won the last game, but I was stopped by a doctor, so it's early," Freire tweeted. "@peterqueally I want to make a revenge match. You guys want to see it too, right?"
Finding himself in Waterford native, Queally's guard during the final moments of the second round, Freire was caught with a barrage of elbows from the bottom, the last of which opened quite a sizeable cut on the Brazilian's forehead and hairline. With blood pouring profusely from Freire down on top of Queally as the round ended -- the best efforts from the cutman couldn't stop the flow of blood, with the cage-side physician calling a halt to the bout -- resulting in a second straight victory for Queally.
With the victory over former lightweight title challenger, Queally was inserted into the #4 rank in the official 155lbs pile, whilst Freire remained the #1 ranked lightweight in the division -- behind his brother, reigning lightweight and featherweight champion, Patricio 'Pitbull' Freire.
Following the victory, Queally, a staple of Straight Blast Gym reflected on his performance -- noting how he was eager for a "real fight".
"When people fight the 'Pitbull' brothers -- you have to bring the fight to them," Queally said post-fight to media. "I did a massive amount of damage, had a mouth full of his (Freire's) blood. This is what I love. I want a fight. A real fight."
Last night, Freire took to his official Twitter account where he claimed he won the last "game" against Queally, until the doctor called off the bout, and attempted to gauge fan interest in a potential rematch against the Waterford striker.
"I won the last game, but I was stopped by a doctor, so it's early," Freire tweeted. "@peterqueally I want to make a revenge match. You guys want to see it too, right?"
Certainly grabbing the attention of Queally, The Déise responded by accepting Freire's calls for a re-run of their May outing -- suggesting an interim lightweight title should be up for grabs.
"I accept @PatrickyPibull," Queally tweeted. "But let's make if for interim (sic) belt. You win, your brother (Patricio Freire) vacates and you are champion. I win again, and @PatricioPitbull defends against me. That's fair. @ScottCoker"
I accept @PatrickyPitbull .

But let’s make it for Interim belt.
You win, your brother vacates and you are Champion.
I win again, and @PatricioPitbull defends against me.
That’s fair. 🤝 @ScottCoker https://t.co/i67WSXxk1P
Queally's calls for an interim lightweight title to be introduced to the division come off the back of current undisputed titleholder, Friere's involvement in the Bellator featherweight Grand Prix which culminates at Bellator 263 on July 31st. where the Brazilian meets with A.J. McKee in the featherweight tournament finale.
The most recent lightweight title fight to take place under the Bellator banner came back in May 2019 where Freire lifted the crown with a quickfire opening round knockout over recent UFC title chaser, Michael Chandler.
