Just 5 days out from their UFC 264 headliner this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada -- former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is currently sitting as a slight betting favourite over former undisputed featherweight and lightweight gold holder, Conor McGregor.
Matching for the third time in their professional careers, Poirier and McGregor currently sit level at one win apiece from two outings together under the UFC's banner. And ahead of their important lightweight main event this weekend in 'Sin City', the stakes on the line are quite high, with a potential lightweight title challenge against recently minted titleholder, Charles Oliveira for the championship before the culmination of this year likely awaiting the victor.
Initially locking horns back in September of 2014 on the main card of UFC 178, then featherweight contenders, Poirier and McGregor shared the Octagon in a rather heated affair.
Within 90-seconds of the opening round, McGregor, then ranked as the #9 featherweight in the official pile stopped Poirier with strikes -- becoming the first to finish the Lafayette native via that method. The bout came as Poirier's last at the 145lbs limit.
In the pair's rematch earlier this year, the two travelled to 'Fight Island' in Abu Dhabi, UAE -- where Poirier became the first to finish McGregor with strikes in professional mixed martial arts, dropping the Dubliner at the fence with a second round barrage.
With fight week commencing, American Top Team staple, Poirier is currently sitting as a betting favourite over Straight Blast Gym mainstay, McGregor. As of publication, per online bookie SportsBetting.ag, Poirier is placed as a -130 betting favourite over McGregor, who is sitting at +110.
In the night's co-main event, a pivotal welterweight showdown between one-time title challenger, Gilbert Burns and two-time championship chaser, Stephen Thompson; where the karate striker, Thompson is sitting as a -158 betting favourite over the underdog, Burns, who is sat at +138.
The largest line of the night comes in favour of bantamweight striker, Sean O'Malley -- who opens the night's main card portion with a short-notice outing against newcomer, Kris Moutinho. As of publication, O'Malley is sat as a whopping -900 betting favourite over Moutinho -- who is a sizeable +550 underdog.
