Report - Nick Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler II Targeted For UFC 266 On September 25th.

According to reports this evening, a welterweight rematch between the returning former title challenger, Nick Diaz and former undisputed welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler is currently in the works to take co-main event status at UFC 266 on September 25th. As of publication, a location, or venue for the pairing of Diaz and Lawler has yet to be determined by the organization.

Initially meeting back in April of 2004 at UFC 47, Diaz handed Lawler a second round knockout loss -- earning his second Octagon victory.

The September rematch against former titleholder, Lawler will mark Diaz's first outing since January 2015 where he battled with former middleweight champion, Anderson Silva to an eventual 'No Contest' at UFC 183.

For San Diego veteran, Lawler, the September outing will mark his first appearance under the promotion's banner since UFC Vegas 8 back in August where he suffered his fourth consecutive defeat in the form of a unanimous decision loss to Neil Magny. News of the targeted rematch of Diaz and Lawler was first reported by TSN reporter, Aaron Bronsteter. 

Stockton native, Diaz is a former undisputed welterweight champion under both the now-defunct Strikeforce and WEC banners -- and challenged for both interim and undisputed gold to no avail under the UFC's banner as part of his second run with the organization.

Amongst his winning record, Diaz has bested the above-mentioned, Lawler, Josh Neer, Gleison Tibau Frank Shamrock, Marius Zaromski, KJ Noons, Evangelista Santos, Takanori Gomi, Paul Daley and B.J. Penn. 

28-15 as a professional, Californian knockout artist, Lawler looks to avenge his 17-year old loss to Diaz come September, and add the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace to a résumé which includes the likes of Chris Lytle, Frank Trigg, Murilo Rua, Melvin Manhoef, Josh Koscheck, Rory MacDonald (x2), Jake Ellenberger, Matt Brown, Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit, and Donald Cerrone.
