Report - Yoel Romero Set For Bellator Debut Against Phil Davis In September 18th. Headliner

Former UFC middleweight title challenger, Yoel 'Soldier of God' Romero is set to make his Bellator MMA promotional bow having obtained medical clearance recently -- penning a bout agreement to tackle former light heavyweight champion and fellow UFC alum, Phil 'Mr. Wonderful' Davis at an event on September 18th. in San Jose, California.
An Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, Romero has notched notable career victories over the likes of Derek Brunson, Brad Tavares, Tim Kennedy, Jacare Souza, Luke Rockhold, and Chris Weidman.
A former top challenger in the UFC as well, the Pennslyvania native has scored eye-catching career triumphs against the likes of Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Vinny Magalhaes, Lyoto Machida (x2), Glover Teixeira, Muhammad Lawal, Liam McGeary (x2), and Karl Albrektsson to name a few.
Romero, who was initially booked to meet with fellow promotional newcomer, Anthony Johnson in the Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix opening round bracket, failed to pass pre-fight medical screenings, with an eye issue ruling him from the bout and entire tournament.
Matching with former undisputed light heavyweight titleholder, Davis, the 36-year-old former gold holder last featured in a title challenge opposite Vadim Nemkov at Bellator 257 in April -- suffering a second career loss to the Russian standout. Putting pen to paper on a multi-fight deal with the Scott Coker-led Bellator banner following his UFC release, Pinar del Rio native, Romero most recently featured professionally at UFC 248 back in March of last year -- dropping an undisputed middleweight title challenge defeat to current gold holder, Israel Adesanya.
