Cynthia Calvillo's grappling gets the better of Pearl Gonzalez:
Cynthia Calvillo's pedigree rises with a second UFC RNC win: |
Keith Peterson stood between the two for this contest with pressure immediately on show from Calvillo, who looked to work the jab against the older Gonzalez. Golden Gloves boxer Pearl was offering little in offence so far in the opening minute or so, almost welcomed the pressure from Cynthia Calvillo. A good block from Gonzalez was followed by a stiff leg kick by Pearl as she dominated the octagon. In the clinchc a good knee round it's mark, while Calvillo followed with a failed Anaconda. A late, slick triangle attempt from Cynthia almost resulted in a stoppage, before the buzzer sounded for the end of the first.
The second round began with some more pressure from Pearl Gonzalez who looked to let her hands fly, but as of yet, to no avail. A 'superman' punch found it's target for Cynthia Calvillo as the clock ticked in the second round. An important takedown was secured for Gonzalez, as Pearl almost synced in and an armbar, before Calvillo displayed her phenomenal movement, taking the back of Pearl as she tried a rear-naked choke. Calvillo failed with a body lock, and then established full mount, and then once more took the back as the second round came to it's close. Two rounds to Cynthia Calvillo so far.
The third and final round seen the pressure from Gonzalez once more on display, but was failing to land really punishing shots. A good spell of striking from Gonzalez came to nothing after an expert trip from Calvillo seen her try an arm-triangle from half guard, before losing it, and in the scramble, taking mount and then the back. After some really impressive patience, Calvillo locked up a rear- naked choke, forcing the tap form Pearl Gonzalez.
