'Do Bronx' is set to try his luck at Lightweight once more. |
UFC 213's opening main card bout, sees a Lightweight clash between former Bellator champ Will Brooks and 155lbs debutant Charles 'Do Bronx' Oliveira. Controversy surrounded Brooks' last contest, as namesake, Alex Oliveira originally missed weight for the Lightweight showdown, tipping the scales at a ridiculous 161.5lbs, before 'Cowboy' stopped Brooks in the third round via strikes. Saturday's opponent Charles Oliveira, was forced to move to Lightweight after missing the Featherweight limit on four separate occasions. A move to Lightweight may yield some success for expert grappler Oliveira, after two consecutive guillotine losses, at the hands of first Anthony Pettis and then last November, Ricardo Lamas. The black belt BJJ star, holds an astonishing 13 submission victories, from his 29 matchs, submitting Myles Jury, Nik Lentz, Efrain Escudero and Darren Elkins to name a few, and is also the proud owner of a reverse calf slicer win against Eric Wisely. 'Ill' Will Brooks on the other hand, relies heavily on his freestyle wrestling background and boxing skills, evident from his consecutive victories over current Bellator Lightweight champ Michael Chandler. Oliveira's 7 losses, have come against only the best of the best, in the form of the aforementioned Pettis, fellow former Lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, and Welterweight star Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone. With Oliveira's immense grappling game always an impressive asset to the Brazilian, we may see a more conservative wrestling display from Brooks.
