This suspension surely puts an end to a Brock Lesnar trilogy that Mir was seeking: |
Former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir, has received a two year ban from the United States Anti-Doping Agency, after failing an in competition drug test, dating back to his late March 2016 first round KO loss to Mark Hunt. Mir tested positive for dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (DHCMT) relating to the loss to Hunt, and due to the retroactive nature of the suspension, the grappler will be ineligible to compete until next year. The 38 year-old was rumoured to be considering walking away from the sport after the devastating loss, and ever since the contest, the veteran has requested to be released from his UFC contract, which has so far proved to be unsuccessful. Holding an 18-11 professional record, the Nevada native has been defeated six times in his last 8 contests, but has picked up some highly valuable career highlights, such as becoming the first man to both knockout and submit former PRIDE Heavyweight champion Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, as well as finishing fantastic kickboxer Antoni Hardonk, Mirko Cro Cop, Tim Sylvia and handed Brock Lesnar his first MMA defeat, at UFC 81, via a nasty kneebar. For now it remains unknown weather Mir will appeal the suspension, but my guess would be that Mir will more than likely announce his overdue retirement from mixed martial arts.
