Two familiar faces from the past meet at UFC 210: |
Two Welterweight veterans lock horns at UFC 210 this weekend, with both looking to reignite their stumbling careers. Both are highly regarded and established knockout artists, with 22 KO wins coming between them. Alves and Canadian 'Predator' Côté have suffered losses in their previous contests, Alves coming up short against both Carlos Condit and just last November at UFC 205, to Jim Miller, while Côté fell victim to the Welterweight surge of Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone. Brazil's Alves and Canada born Côté have challenged for UFC gold in the past, the former against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 100, and at UFC 90, a knee injury against Anderson Silva stopped the latter's Middleweight title push. Alves has found a way past some of the most feared Welterweights in the form of Matt Hughes, Josh Koscheck and Chris Lytle, while Sunday's opponent Côté, has stopped Kendall Grove, Josh Burkmann and most recently Ben Saunders. American Top Team's Alves, is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, compared to Patrick's black belt, so the grappling exchanges present a distinct advantage to Côté. Despite this, I believe Alves holds the more explosive striking, and more than enough to finish his opponent.
Thiago Alves via knockout.
