Heavy hitter Mike Perry is vying to break the top 15: |
UFC Welterweight challengers Jake Ellenberger and Mike Perry go to war this weekend in the opening bout of the main card of UFC Fight Night Nashville, with both men looking to recover from disappointing losses. The NCAA Divison II wrestler Ellenberger, convincingly finished Matt Brown with knees, before a cage malfunction against top contender Jorge Masvidal back in December resulted in a controversial knockout loss for 'The Juggernaut'. With 19 career wins via KO, Ellenberger has stopped the likes of Jake Shields and Nate Marquardt, before a down hill spiral of losses, almost seen the experienced American cut from the Ultimate Fighting Championship. New on the UFC scene, 25 year-old Perry, entered the UFC with a considerable bang, finishing both Danny Roberts after decimating Hyun Gyu Lim, but when faced with stern challenger Alan Jouban, the Muay Thai based star picked up a decision win, handing 'Platinum' his first career defeat. A crushing win for Perry would certainly see him leapfrog Ellenberger into the #13 position in the Welterweight rankings. Given that Ellenberger has been KO'ed 4 times in his 12 career losses, I can see the younger, fresher Perry snatching a knockout victory.
Mike Perry via knockout.
