After a NYSAC fiasco, we have a fight! |
After some bizarre controversy, we have a Women's Strawweight contest! At yesterday's weigh ins both ladies made the 115lbs limit, but afterwards, promotion debutant Pearl Gonzalez was informed by the NYSAC that she would be unable to compete, due to the ban on breast implants among female fighters in the state. After a day of confusion, both ladies squared off at the ceremonial weigh in, where Dana White took to Twitter to confirm the fight would in fact take place. Both contenders are submission specialists, with 5 submissions victories in their favour between them. Octagon newcomer Gonzalez's most recognisable win came against Courtney Casey, while a quick rear-naked choke win for Calvillo against Amanda Cooper lies comfortably on the 29 year-old's résumé. Another win for Calvillo could see her climb into the top 10 rankings, while a W for Gonzalez, would argue with Courtney Casey as the most impressive win on her record. I don't imagine a lot of stand up on display during this exciting matchup, so a grappling exchange is the most likely to produce a winner.
Pearl Gonzalez via submission.
