McGregor's next MMA bout may be in the work already. |
With speculation mounting that a boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor may finally be close to culminating, UFC President Dana White, is already eyeing his star McGregor's, next MMA bout. Current UFC Lightweight and former Featherweight champ McGregor was flawless on his way to a November 155lbs title victory over the unfortunate Eddie Alvarez. McGregor utilised his superior boxing skills, and that patented left hand, to drop 'The Underground King' at least twice in the first, and coolly delivered a slick left right combination in the second to finish the fight. Despite the recent talk of a crossover between Mayweather and McGregor, a loss would have little to no reflection on his future in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, with his Lightweight crown firmly placed on his head. With division contenders like Dustin Poirier, Edson Barboza, and Michael Johnson, hot on the heels of 'The Notorious' one, a distinct contender lies a cut above the rest, in the form of grappler Tony 'El Cucuy' Ferguson. Ferguson was scheduled to face Dagestan native Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209, but on the day before the contest, Khabib was forced to pull out from the fight, marking the third time the bout had failed to materialise. Unbelievably, McGregor told after his bout with Alvarez at UFC 205, how he couldn't rely on Khabib to actually make the date to compete, and his point has been truely proven after the UFC 209 fiasco. A Lightweight title contest between McGregor and Ferguson would be one of the most interesting matchups to make today, with questions raised like, can Ferguson withstand the power of McGregor, or could Ferguson force a tap from Conor with his favourite D'arce, and 10th Planet black belt in BJJ under Eddie Bravo.
