Nick Diaz hasn't featured in the UFC octagon since January, 2015. |
Two time UFC Welterweight title challenger Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson, is said to be interested in welcoming former Strikeforce and WEC Welterweight champ Nick Diaz back to the octagon, after he recovers from his recent knee surgery. Simpsonville native Thompson, twice went close to claiming Tyron Woodley's 170lbs crown, first at UFC 205 where the two fought to a five round majority draw, and just weeks ago, despite many in the MMA community's opinion, Woodley picked up a decision win over the kickboxing star. Thompson, recently went under the knife to undergo surgery on his knee, after picking up an injury during his main event bout with Woodley, and according to Stephen's head coach and father Ray, the fan favourite would be willing to face brass trash talker, and fellow favourite Nick Diaz, in his next contest. Stockton born Diaz, last featured at UFC 183, back in January 2015, in an eventual no contest after both Diaz and 183 opponent Anderson Silva, tested positive for banned substances. Both men are predominantly strikers, but Diaz would most certainly hold a distinct advantage in the grappling exchanges, holding a 3rd degree black belt in BJJ under Cesar Gracie, and 8 subsequent submission wins. Ray Thompson also claimed that his son would be interesting in facing former Welterweight kings Carlos Condit or Robbie Lawler, if a Diaz fight doesn't materialise.
