Tyron Woodley retains in 'Wonderboy' rematch:

Late barrage from Woodley almost finishes 'Wonderboy' in tactical rematch.
The main event of UFC 209, seen a monstrous Welterweight rematch between champ Tyron Woodley and kickboxing star Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson. With John McCarthy the man in the middle, things got underway in this highly anticipated re-run. Both men were hugely tentative for the first minute, with Thompson landing tI hat patented front leg side kick, before moving away from the oncoming flurry of Woodley. Thomson was certainly playing the lead in the first round, dominating the octagon forcing Woodley to fight off the cage. 'Wonderboy' then pounced in and landed a good combination before springing clear of a counter. First round closed, Thompson's round. More of the same in the second, with a tentative showing, Woodley again pinned to the cage and looking to flurry when possible. Little to no action in the second roun, with Thompson again looking for that front leg side kick. Originally failing with a single leg attempt at the beginning of the third, Woodley clasped the hands and tripped Stephen to land a hugely important takedown. From half guard, Woodley began to lay down some decent shots, controlling the hand of Thompson who was trying to defend. Eventually making it to his feet, 'Wonderboy' disengaged and began targeting the body of Woodley, at before the buzzer, scored a big left hand shot. The penultimate round seen a calm and cautious approach from both strikers, before a wheel kick attempt from Thompson landed square, grabbing the attention of 'The Chosen One'. Then another similar scenario as Thomson went high with a left kick tagging Woodley well. A much more urgent 'T-Wood' was on display in the final round, knowing that he's more than likely down on the scorecard. Many flurries missed their mark for Woodley, as desperation set in. Then with just less than a minute in the round, Woodley sprung at 'Wonderboy' and dropped the South Carolina fighter with a combination before quickly dropping him again as the round ended. After totting up the score cards, the judges awarded a majority decision victory to Tyron Woodley as he retained his Welterweight championship.
