Correia and Reneau battle to a majority draw:
It's as you were after this impressive showdown. |
The opening round of the three scheduled, seen Reneau open with a front kick, while Correia countered well. Reneau then landed a big kick to the body of the 'Pitbull', before Bethe clinched up. Again in the clinch, Marion Reneau was landing some decent knees. A good left hook scored well for Correia with just under a minute left in the first round. Very late in the round, Correia picked up an important takedown. Very close round to score, but the takedown favours the 'Pitbull' Correia.
Both Correia and Reneau opened up with jabs at the beginning of the second round, before Correia once more engaged a clinch. Correia was scoring well with big hooks before a good uppercut landed for the Brazil favourite. Bethe landed some more on the exit of the single collar clinch, before Reneau exchanged her own uppercut. Correia once more landed a big single leg, but from full guard, Reneau tried a triangle but Bethe managed to slip her head out. Another round for Correia, this one more definite.
The third and final round began with a left hand from Correia, before a perfect head kick wobbled the Brazilian, and a knee and a big right hand sent her stumbling backwards. Bethe then shot for a single leg to survive, but a good sprawl from the American Reneau allowed her lay down some shots. Reneau then established mount and after posturing up, again landed big. Correia then swept Reneau but the latter once more wound up in mount. Giving up her back, Reneau seized the opportunity and looked to secure both hooks, but switched to the bodylock with Correia defending brilliantly. What heart from Correia as she survived a big, late onslaught from Reneau. The judges scored the bout a majority draw, fantastic judging on display.
