Leicester City V Manchester United: FA Community Shield
Premier League winner Leicester City took on F.A. cup victors Manchester United in the first competitive game of the 2016/2017 season. Leicester decieded against including new signings Nampalys Mendy, Ron Robert Zieler, Luis Hernandez and Ahmed Musa in the starting eleven whole new United coach José Mourinho brought new signings Eric Bailly and Swede superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic into the starting eleven, while Jesse Lingard came in for former Borussia Dortmund winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan. News broke before the the game that Juventud had allowed Paul Pogba to travel to England in order to carry out a medical ahead of a record move to Manchester United, as one of the summers longest drawn out sagas looked to be finally over. Last season stars Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez featured for Leicester with only N'Golo Kante leaving the King Power stadium. United dominated possession in the openijg 5 minutes. The imposing figure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sure to cause trouble for Leicester's centre half pairing of Robert Huth and Wes Morgan as he made his competitive debut for his new side. Wayne Rooney fresh from his testimonial against Everton, seen his header from just inside the box easily caught by Kasper Schmeichel. Ibrahimovic rose highest and found Marouane Fellaini who's twisting half volley was spilt by Schmeichel who then gratefully pounced on the ball. Jamie Vardy then found some space after a good run and found Japenese strike partner Shinji Okazaki who's shot went wide past De Gea's post. Okazaki then from the resulting corner seen his header cleared off the line as Leicester came closest to scoring. 10 minutes later the deadlock was broke as FA Cup hero Jesse Lingard recovered the ball just inside his own half and went on a mazy run through the Leicester back line and slotted the ball past Kasper Schmeichel to give his side the lead. United's faithful them sang 'He's coming home, Pogba's coming home' as it looked like José Mourinho had finally secured his 4th signing for Manchester United. The half time whistle sounded as United headed into the break a goal to the good and looked a shadow of the team Louis Van Gaal has been in charge of last season. Demarai Gray came on along with former CSKA Moscow forward Ahned Musa as Marc Albrighton and Shinji Okazaki made way. United made no changes for the second half. Eric Bailly then showed his prowess when he stopped Jamie Vardy's dangerous run and got rid of the danger. Leicester seen a lot more of the ball during the start of the second half. Riyad Mahrez then found some space and then passed to Ahmed Musa who couldn't sort out his feet as United cleared the danger once against. We then seen the blistering pace of new signing Ahmed Musa, as Fellaini gave the ball straight to Jamid Vardy after a bad pass back, who founded De Gea and found the net from a tight angle. Andy King then received a yellow card as he brought down Jesse Lingard as the England winger was advancing on goal. Ahmed Musa then caused more problems with his pace as he found Demarai Gray with a cross field ball but the former Birmingham winger seen his shot easily held by De Gea. Michael Carrick then made way for Ander Herrera, while two new Leicester signings made their debuts as Nampalys Mendy came on for Welsh midfielder Nampaly Mendy and Luis Hernandez replaced Danny Simpson. Goal scorer Jesse Lingard then came off injured as Juan Mata replaced him. Fellaini then found Wayne Rooney on the edge of the box and his left footed shot easily held. Marcus Rashford then was introduced in place of Anthony Martial, while Argentine defender Marcos Rojo replaced the returning Luke Shaw. New signing Nampaly Mendy was making a good impression on his debut as the tough tackling, explosive defensive midfielder was breaking down Mancester United attacks at will. Jamie Vardy was then booked after a late challenge on Juan Mata. Marcus Rashford then won a corner for Manchester United as Eric Bailly smashed into Demarai Gray and was lucky to stay on the pitch. Kasper Schmeichel then preformed his best Manuel Neuer impression as he rushed out at the feet of Antonio Valencia to clear. Zlatan Ibrahimovic then seen his tame effort cleared on the line. Jeffrey Schulpp then came on for former Schalke defender Christian Fuchs with 10 minutes to go. Ahmed Musa then seen his header go high over David De Gea's bar. Zlatan Ibrahimovic then scorer what will surely be the winner as he out muscled Wes Morgan to score a wonderful header as it cannoned of the post and past Schmeichel. French midfielder Morgan Schniederlin then was brought on to replace United captain Wayne Rooney as José Mourinho looked to sure up his side, while want away Argentine forward Leonardo Ulloa replaced Robert Huth in one last throw of the dice for Claudio Ranieri. Eric Bailly was handed the man of the match award on his debut. Armenian Winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the last change for United as he replaced Juan Mata, who picked up a knock earlier on. A late chance for Kasper Schmeichel wasn't enough for Leicester as José Mourinho picked up his first piece of silverware as a Manchester United boss, thanks to a Zlatan Ibrahimovic header.
