UFC 202: My Predictions
UFC Fight Pass Prelims:
Alberto Uda v Marvin Vettori: Experienced Brazilian Middleweight Alberto Uda takes on Italian submission specialist Marvin Vettori in the opening fight of UFC 202. The 32 year old Uda last fought and suffered his first defeat in his professional MMA career to Jake Collier as he went 9-0 before his debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Uda, more than capable both on the feet and on the mat, will be comfortable wherever this fight ends up, and we may even see a battle of Ju-Jitsu with Vettori winning 7 of his bouts via submission.
Alberto Uda via knockout.
Colby Covington V Max Griffin: Colby Covington and Max Griffin lock horns in what could prove to be a very exciting Welterweight bout. Covington, coming off a submission victory over Jonathan Meunier, is many peoples favourite to beat the UFC debutante Griffin, but may find it difficult to deal with Max 'Pains' striking.
Colby Covington via submission.
Neil Magny V Lorenz Larkin: #7 ranked Welterweight contender Neil Magny takes on Lorenz 'The Monsoon' Larkin in an exciting fight to bring an end to the UFC Fight Pass Prelims.Larkin, known for his tremendous stand up holds an impressive victory over former UFC Welterweight champion 'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler during the pairs time in StrikeForce. Magny comes off a barn burner against Cuban Hector Lombard in Australia. A victory for Magny would see him move even higher in the rankings and would put himself into real contention for a title shot.
Neil Magny via unanimous decision.
BT Sport and UFC Fight Pass Prelims:
Randa Markos V Courtney Casey: Iraqi native Randa Markos takes on unranked American Courtney Casey in the first fight of the BT Sport and UFC Fight Pass Prelims. Markos' most notable citroy came agaisnt Irish Ju-Jitsu practitioner Aisling Daly while she has been on the wrong side of defeats to Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Jessica Penne. Casey on the other hand only fought last month beating Cristina Stanciu via a first round TKO and her most recognisable defeats come against Seo Hee Ham and Joanne Calderwood.
Randa Markos via unanimous decision.
Artem Lobov V Chris Avila: The first battle between Team McGregor and Team Diaz takes place between 'The Russian Hammer' Artem Lobov and American Chris Avila. Lobov holds a mediocre 12-12-1 record in his MMA career while the young Chris Avila is 5-2 in his career. This may be the last chance for Lobov in the UFC, as his record has drawn many critics. Lobov a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter; Team McGregor V Team Faber, impressed with 3 knockouts before losing later on in the competition. Avila holds a 7 inch reach over Lobov but, Lobov has a 2 inch height advantage over the impressive youngster.
Artem Lobov via split decision.
Raquel Pennington V Elizabeth Phillips:
Experienced Amercian Raquel Pennington takes on compatriot Elizabeth Phillips in a Women's Bantamweight fight. Pennington holds impressive wins over former title challenger Bethe Correia and Jessica Andrade, with her most notable defeat coming against former UFC Bantamweight Champion Holly 'The Preachers Dayghter' Holm. Phillips, 5-3 in his professional mixed martial arts career last won against Jessamyn Duke, but her first loss in her UFC career came against Canadian Valerie Letourneau.
Raquel Pennington by unanimous decision.
Cody Garbrandt V Takeya Mizugaki: Cody 'No Love' Garbrandt takes on veteran Asian striker Takeya Mizugaki. Garbrandt, 9-0 in his MMA career lay fought and knocked out Brazilian striker Thomas Almeida after a dominant display. The 25 year old American is undefeated in his career and is gearing for a UFC Bantamweight title fight against Dominick Cruz. Mizugaki has losses to Aljamain 'Funk Master' Sterling and now champion Dominick Cruz in his record but holds eye catching victories over Bryan Caraway, Erik Perez and Francisco Rivera. Cody's explosive power should prove to be too much for Mizugaki.
Cody Garbrandt via knockout.
Main Card:
Tim Means V Sabah Homasi: Tim 'The Dirty Bird' Means takes on UFC debutante Sabah Homasi in the first battle on the main card of UFC 202. Means, last victory came in December last year against John Howard but the Albuquerque native has lost to Jorge Masvidal, Neil Magny and Matt Brown in his Welterweight career. Homasi, 11-5 in his career has fought multiple times for the Bellator organisation but I believe Means will possess too much experience for Homasi.
Tim Means via decision.
Hyun Gyu Lim V Mike Perry: Veteran Seoul striker Hyun Gyu Lim takes on 7-0 Mike Perry in an exciting matchup. Lim only losses in the UFC coming against Tarec Saffiedine and Neil Magny, as he holds impressive victories over Pascal Krauss and Takenori Sato. Mike Perry a very well rounded fighter is another man to make his debut at UFC 202, and for this reason, I believe Lim's experience at 31 years of age, compared to Perry who is only 24 will be enough to warrant him a victory.
Hyun Gyu Lim via unanimous decision.
Rick Story V Donald Cerrone: Rick Story takes on Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in a very stylistic matchup, Story has most recently beaten Gunnar Nelson and Tarec Saffiedine and also holds a victory over former UFC Welterweight champion Johnny 'Big Rig' Hendricks. The always admirable and straight talking Cerrone looks to continue his tear in the Welterweight division since his step up to 170 since his lost to Rafael Dos Anjos in their UFC Lightweight title fight. Cerrone's venture at Welterweight has seen him pick up victories over Alex 'Cowboy' Oliviera and former top
Middleweight contender Patrick Côte. With 30 wins in his career, Cerrone's experience should give him the victory.
Donald Cerrone via unanimous decision.
Anthony Johnson V Glover Teixiera: One of the most important fights in the UFC this year sees Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson take on Brazilian veteran Glover Teixiera with the victor slated to take on current UFC Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier later in the year. Johnson may hold the heaviest hands in the UFC today and will look to cause Teixiera trouble early on in their 3 round fight Teixiera last fought and beat 'Suga' Rashad Evans with a stunning knockout. Johnson holds impressive victories over Ryan 'Darth' Bader and Alexander 'The Mauler' Gustafsson in Stockholm displaying fantastic striking throughout. Johnson superb striking techniques and raw power should be enough for an early knockout victory.
Anthony Johnson via knockout.
Nate Diaz V Conor McGregor: The main event of UFC 202 sees the long awaited rematch between Stockton's Nate Diaz and 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor. Nate, confidence flowing since the first bout in which he secured a second round submission victory. Emotions erupted at the pairs Pre Fight
Press Conference when a late McGregor stole the show and then Nate received a gesture from his older brother Nick Diaz and the younger brother got up form his seat, water bottle in hand. Diaz then met up with his entourage known as the 'Scrap Pack' and may his way to the stands, moments later Nate produced the water bottle and fired it in Conor's direction. McGregor's team, sitting among the journalists fairies bottles back and from the stage, the Dublin native threw his only bottles before launching Monster Energy drink cans into the fray. Dana White then called a drastic end to the conference, with Conor in fighting mood. On Friday both men weighed in with Nate just coming until the limit at 170.5lbs and Conor coming it at 168lbs. McGregor experienced a great deal of success in the first round of the pairs first fight, but ultimately his cardio fell short and he was submitted by the Cesar Gracie black belt. I believe the second bout between the pair will go a completely different way, with Conor implementing the same game plan as he did in the first round, but being ever so cautious of his cardiovascular system. I also believe a lot of Conor's fight camp revolved around being prepared for a 5 round war. Nate Diaz is no slouch when it comes to cardio with the American said to part take in triathlons for 'fun' Nate will look to use his superior reach to his advantage and pick his shots from outside of McGregor's reaching distance and look to swarm the Irish man in the attempt of pursuing him into a take down attempt similar to how their first fight concluded. Conor targets a 2nd round stoppage while his coach John Kavanagh predicted a 4th round finish for the Dubliner. I believe we will witness a much more cardio sound McGregor prepared to go the distance if necessary and i also believe his shots against a normally slow starting Diaz in the first and second rounds could enough to see a corner stoppage or enough for referee 'Big John' McCarthy to step in.
Conor McGregor via technical knockout.
